Anadolu Efes rolls past Fenerbahce to win first title of the season

Anadolu Efes surpassed Fenerbahce 86-72 to win the 2022 Turkish Cup. The EuroLeague titleholders saw three players combining for 62 points to down their rivals.

Vasilje Micic and co. built a 14-point (27-41) lead in the first half and maintained their poise until the end to secure the club’s 12th cup title. Tibor Pleiss was named Final-4 MVP after putting another commanding performance in the Final with 20 points and eight rebounds. Rodrigue Beaubois followed him with 19 points on five made threes.

Fenerbahce reached the title game severely undermanned, losing Pierria Henry to injury during the semifinal vs Darussafaka. Sasa Djordevic was also without Nando de Colo (hand), Jan Vesely, Danilo Barthel, Marial Shayok, and Achille Polonara.

Efes had its share of injury issues with James Anderson remaining out, alongside Chris Singleton, Elijah Bryant, and Bryant Dunston.

MVP of the Game: Vasilje Micic had a night to remember in Bursa. He put up a team-high 23 points and six assists to lead Efes to a comfortable victory over its rivals.

Key to victory: Efes outrebounded Fener with 37 total number of rebounds. On the contrary, Fenerbahce had only 21.

Anadolu Efes has won the title for the first time since 2018, when they prevailed over Tofas with 78-61.

Both teams will continue their run in the EuroLeague at the end of the week. Efes will play Maccabi Tel Aviv Thursday. Fenerbahce will hope to bounce back facing AS Monaco Basket Friday night.
