Donovan Mitchell to miss All-Star Game with non-Covid illness

Donovan Mitchell announced he will miss the 2022 NBA All-Star Game, due to illness.

The superstar guard revealed he is dealing with an upper respiratory, non-Covid illness. As a result, he will be unavailable for the game, which tips off at 8pm ET.

“It’s a great honor and has always been a dream of mine to be selected as an NBA All-Star.

Remorsefully, I will not be able to play in tonight’s All-Star Game due to an upper respiratory illness (non-COVID related),” Mitchell said in a statement.

Utah Jazz star guard was a member of Team LeBron. Given there is not much time left until tip-off, the NBA will most likely not name a replacement for Mitchell.

Donovan Mitchell was set for his third straight All-Star Game appearance, alongside teammate Rudy Gobert. The star duo was the first Jazz players to appear in consecutive All-Star Games since Karl Malone (2000-2002).

Donovan Mitchell is averaging 25.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and a career-high 5.2 assists this season. For their part, the Jazz are fourth in the West, at 36-22. It is still unclear if Mitchell will be ready for the game vs the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.
