Zenit announces group of foreign players are allowed to leave team

Zenit St.Petersburg will allow non-Russian players to leave the team if the want considering the situation in Ukraine.

At a meeting between the players and the team management, several expressed their worries leaving the team, considering the current situation in air traffic between countries.

However, part of the players will depart from Russia soon due to safety reasons. This decision of the players is not provided by contractual obligations, but the club treats this situation with understanding.

The state of the signed contracts will be adjusted to reflect the future format of the competition in both the EuroLeague and the VTB League.

After things return to normal, the team expects the players to return to St. Petersburg and join the team.

Shabazz Napier was the first to leave the country after terminating his contract. Mindaugas Kuzminskas was the second member of the squad to leave the team for safety reasons.

The Russian clubs were suspended for a month by the EuroLeague earlier today due to the war in Ukraine. This means that all games of the three Russian teams will not take place until late March.

The EuroLeague will be continued this week for the rest of the clubs. Round 28 will take place on March 3 and 4.
