Baskonia defeats ASVEL for second consecutive win in EuroLeague

Baskonia kept its composure at last three minutes of the game and defeated ASVEL 69-72 for round 29 of the EuroLeague.

The Spanish team used a 2-12 run in the last 3 minutes, and Matt Castello sank 2 free throws with 1.7 seconds remaining to win and improve to 9-19.

Alec Peters was the leading scorer for the Spanish club with 17 points. Wade Baldwin scored 14 points, while Costello put up 13.

ASVEL lost its seventh straight and ninth of the last 10 games to fall to 9-18. Paul Lacombe had a team-high 16 points for the French club.

“The character and personality of our players – this is our fifth game in 10 days – I just want to congratulate them for the amazing effort. I know we didn’t play our best basketball. But I saw a lot of personality today,” Neven Spahija said of his team’s victory.

Baskonia will host ALBA Berlin next week for round 30 of the EuroLeague. ASVEL will travel to Madrid in order to face Real Madrid.
