Manu Ginobili headlines 2022 Basketball Hall of Fame class

NBA announced the elections of the 2022 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame class. Manu Ginobili headlines several NBA, WNBA and NCAA legends.

Ginobili, a four-time champion with the San Antonio Spurs, joins 13 honorees from the North American and Women’s committees, as it was announced Saturday.

This year’s inductees include Tim Hardaway, George Karl, Bob Huggins, Hugh Evans, Swin Cash, Lindsay Whalen, Marianne Stanley, Del Hudson, Theresa Shank-Grentz.

The committee also added Radivoj Korac, Larry Costello and Lou Hudson, who are recognized posthumously.

Ginobili made it on his first time on the ballot. The Argentinian legend is one of the two players in the history of the league to have won an NBA title, an Olympic gold medal and the EuroLeague title during his career. Ginobili will join former teammate Tim Duncan, who was inducted in 2020.

Swin Cash, who is already in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, added a Naismith induction to her list of accomplishments that include four WNBA All-Star nods, and two gold medals and a spot on the WNBA’s 20 best players of all-time list in 2016.

Tim Hardaway, who was a star with the Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat, joins former teammates Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond. He had 15,373 points in his career.

Bob Huggins enters HOF after 45 years of coaching at Cincinnati, Kansas State and West Virginia where he’s led his teams to 25 NCAA Tournament berths and two Final Fours.

Longtime head coach George Karl is one of the winningest coaches being sixth all-time in victories. He coached in Seattle, Denver, Milwaukee and Sacramento registering 1,175 career wins.

Lindsay Whalen won three WNBA championships and was a five-time WNBA All-Star and a two-time gold medalist. She is the coach of University of Minnesota now.

Marianne Stanley, currently the coach of the Indiana Fever, was a college coach for 22 seasons and reached three Final Fours.

Huge Evans was a referee from 1973-2001 with many appearances in the NBA Finals. Lou Hudson was a six-time NBA All-Star. He was selected by the veterans committee and will be inducted posthumously.

Theresa Shank-Grentz — A long-time college coach with a record of 681–360, she was the Team USA head coach at the Barcelona Olympics and led the Americans to a gold medal.

Radivoje Korac was a star Serbian player, who was named one of FIBA’s 50 greatest players of all-time in 1991. He’ll be inducted posthumously.

The enshrinement ceremony is Sept. 10 at Springfield Symphony HallOne.
