Tenerife,Manresa, Holon sweep quarter-final series to clinch place on BCL Final-4

The FIBA Basketball Champions League Final-4 quartet has been almost completed with Baxi Manresa, Tenerife and Hapoel Holon sweeping their quarter-final series on Tuesday.

Manresa needed a Joe Tommason’s big bucket with 1.0 second remaining to clinch its place in the Final-4 and surpass fellow Spanish team Unicaja Malaga.Matt Mooney’s three gave Unicaja an 89-86 lead. Sylvain Francisco responded with a triple of his own to tie the score. Mooney tried to re-give the lead to Malaga but missed.

Thomasson took his time, found his spot and knocked down the shot to allow his team get away with a 91-89 victory. Manresa’s Chima Moneke was the MVP of Tuesday’s game with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting  from the field.

HTEapoel Holon became the second team to punch its ticket for the BCL Final-4, which will take place in Bilbao, as the Israelis prevailed against SIG Strasbourg with an 81-80 win to clinch a 2-0 series win against their opponents.

Tyrus McGee led Holon with 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, but the hero of the moment was Joe Ragland. Ragland came up big when it mattered the most, knocking down two big shots down the stretch that helped Holon get the series-clinching win.

Tenerife made it to the Final-4 for the third time in six BCL competitions after beating Tofas Bursa 74-73. Tofas made a crazy comeback in the last 2:45 of the game, taking a 73-72 lead after falling back down eight (64-72, 37′).

However, Tenerife kept its composure in the last seconds of the game. Veteran guard Marcelinho Huertas took it upon himself to stun the home crowd, finish the game and end the series with the winning play. Marcelinho collected 15 points and 7 assists, both team-highs for Txus Vidorreta’s team.
