Panathinaikos announces the hiring of Giorgos Vovoras for the rest of the season

After sweeping the whole front office and coaching staff the last few days, Panathinaikos announced the hiring of Giorgos Vovoras as a head coach for the rest of the season.

His assistants will be former Lavrio head coach Christos Serelis, Thanasis Giaples, and Isidoros Koutsos.

Vovoras was at the helm of the Greek giants last year. He was a long-time assistant for the “Greens” under Rick Pitino, Xavi Pascual and Argiris Pedoulakis.

He coached in Debrecen, Hungary, from November to February this year. The “Greens” finished the season in the EuroLeague in a disappointing note, having one of the worst records in the competition.

The six-time EuroLeague champions will try to turn the page after parting ways with head coach Dimitris Priftis a couple of days ago.

“We all know very well what we have come for and the responsibility we have serving the Panathinaikos Association,” the new Panathinaikos coach said.

“We have a difficult situation ahead of us but also a great challenge and we want to be mentally and competitively ready to cope as befits Panathinaikos. We do not need to say more words, we bow our heads and we all work together as a team.”
