Nikola Jokic is eligible for a supermax contract extension and the Denver Nuggets want to keep him for as long as possible.

The president of the Nuggets, Tim Connelly, addressed the situation with the Serbian center. Connelly made it clear that re-signing the reigning MVP is a top priority for Denver.

“There’s nothing more important organizationally than making sure Nikola stays here as long as he plays the game,” Connelly said, via Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports.

Nikola Jokic averaged 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists this season and is a prime candidate for the MVP award.

For their part, the Nuggets suffered an early playoff exit and will make changes to their roster. Star guard Jamal Murray and forward Michael Porter Jr. are expected to return to top form next year.
