WNBA: Mystics overcome Dream to climb at the top of the WNBA standings

Natasha Cloud delivered 17 points and the Washington Mystics erased a double-digit deficit in the second-half to beat the Atlanta Dream 78-73. Ariel Atkins scored 18 points for the Mystics, who prevailed in a nail-biter.

Tianna Hawkins made two free throws to give the Mystics a 74-73 lead with 41.5 seconds left. Rhyne Howard missed a shot in the next possession and Cloud made two free throws to put the visitors up three (76-73).

Then, Atkins stole a pass and added two more free throws to cap the scoring with 19 seconds remaining for the Mystics (5-1), who climbed atop of the WNBA standings. Rhyne Howard hit four 3-pointers and led Atlanta (4-2) with 21 points.

Jonquel Jones scored 19 points and the Connecticut Sun beat the Indiana Fever 94-85 for their third straight victory. DeWanna Bonner had 18 points and Alyssa Thomas added 17 for Connecticut (3-1).

The Sun had six players in double figures. DiJonai Carrington and Brionna Jones scored 11 apiece, while Natisha Heideman added 10. Connecticut hit 11 of 19 from 3-point range, outscored the Fever 21-11 from the free throw line and grabbed 11 offensive rebounds.

Kelsey Mitchell scored 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting for Indiana (2-5). Victoria Vivians scored 15 points and Danielle Robinson added 10. NaLyssa Smith was a game-time decision, but she did not play missing her second consecutive contest.

Breanna Stewart scored 28 points and the Seattle Storm held on to an 83-80 win over the Los Angeles Sparks. Stewart also had seven rebounds to help the Storm (3-3) win their second game in the row.

Seattle started off strong taking a 13-point lead in the first quarter. However, the Sparks answered back and had the chance to send the game in OT, but, Nneka Ogwumike missed the final shot.

Ogwumike finished the contest with 20 points for the Sparks (2-4) and Liz Cambage had a team-high 25 points. Storm’s Sue Bird had eight points and eight assists, while Ezi Magbegor registered nine points and 11 rebounds.
