Klay Thompson had an underwhelming Game 1 in the 2022 NBA Finals as the Warriors dropped their home-advantage in the first game of the series vs Boston. The Celtics had a remarkable run in the fourth quarter and beat the Warriors in front of their fans.

“I need to make more shots. I need to take more shots,” Thompson said on what he needs to improve in Gm2. “I need to get more stops. I need to just be myself. Yeah, that would be one of the greatest to ever shoot it, so I’ll rely on that.”

Thompson finished Thursday’s game with 15 points on 6-of-14-shooting, three rebounds and two assists. Thompson alongside Poole will play an important role in the Warriors’ response in Game 2.

When the Warriors needed him most, Thompson responded with two memorable games in the series vs Dallas and Memphis. Against Memphis, he went full “Game 6 Klay” and close out the series vs Grizzlies with 30 points.

He showed the same energy in the Game 5 win in the series vs Dallas to score 32 points and lead his team to a 108-120 victory. He averages 19.5 points through 17 games with the Warriors in the postseason.

The Warriors should do a better job protecting the lead, especially against a great team like the Boston Celtics. The Celtics were down 15 in the third quarter, but they made a great run (40-16) in the fourth quarter to win Game 1.

“I thought we got comfortable when we went up 15, including myself, our team, the fans. We’ve done it so many times, we probably just expect that we’re going to win,” Thompson on the Warriors’ reaction Thursday.

“Then I reminded myself, the playoffs are about being uncomfortable until you complete the mission. So it was a harsh reminder, but something we all needed to go through, including myself. It’s about how we respond tomorrow, which I am very excited for.”

The Warriors and the Celtics will meet again Sunday night for Game 2 of the NBA Finals series.
