WNBA: Mercury beat Sparks behind Skylar Diggins-Smith’s 29 points

Skylar Diggins-Smith scored a season-high 29 points to lead the Phoenix Mercury to a 74-81 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Sparks. Diggins-Smith shot 10-of-16 from the field, while her co-star Diana Taurasi finished with 19 points for the Mercury (3-8).

Taurasi also had seven assists as the Mercury put an end to a seven-game losing streak. Nneka Ogwumike had 19 points and seven rebounds to pace the Sparks (5-7). Brittney Sykes totaled 14 points, four rebounds and three assists, but Mercury prevailed.

Kelsey Plum tied her career high with 32 points and the Las Vegas Aces beat the visiting Dallas Wings 78-84. Dearica Hamby added 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the Aces played without Jackie Young.

Las Vegas (10-2) has won eight of its last nine games in the WNBA regular season. Allisha Gray finished with 24 points and nine rebounds for Dallas (6-5). Kayla Thornton had six points and 15 rebounds for the losing side.

Emma Meesseman scored 13 points with six assists and the Chicago Sky beat the visiting Washington Mystics 91-82. The Sky took control of the contest outscoring their opponents 31-22 in the third quarter.

Kahleah Copper led the Sky (7-3) with 15 points. Candance Parker finished with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, while having six assists. It was the second win over the Mystics (7-5) for the Sky this season.

Aerial Powers scored 27 points and the Minnesota Lynx held off the New York Liberty 84-77. Sylvia Fowles and Kayla McBride added 18 apiece for the visiting team as Minnesota blew an 19-point lead before securing the win in the final minutes.

Rachel Banham scored 11 points for Minnesota (3-8), which ended a two-game losing streak. Sabrina Ionescu led the Liberty (3-8), which had won two straight, with 31 points and seven assists.

Nia Coffey had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Rhyne Howard added also 16 and the Atlanta Dream beat the Indiana Fever 66-75. That was the fourth straight home victory for the Dream (7-4).

Aari McDonald scored 12 points and Cheyenne Parker added 11 for Atlanta, who scored 32 points in the third quarter. Mitchell hit three 3-pointers and led the Fever (3-10) with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting.

Jonquel Jones had 25 points, DeWanna Bonner and Brionna Jones added 21 points each and the Connecticut Sun rallied to beat the Seattle Storm 93-86 for their fourth victory in the row.

Alyssa Thomas had eight points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists and DiJonae Carrington added 12 points for Connecticut (9-3). Magbegor had 19 points and Sue Bird added 17 and six assists for Seattle (5-5).
