NBA expert on Hedgeout: “It’s far more likely the Jazz will trade Rudy Gobert rather than Donovan Mitchell”

Following the departure of head coach Quin Snyder, the Utah Jazz are entering an offseason that could see them trade either Rudy Gobert or Donovan Mitchell.

With the Jazz failing to have a deep playoff run for another season, both superstars have been included in several trade scenarios.

Their rocky relationship, especially in the Covid-19 era, has been one of the main reasons the franchise could trade one of them this summer.

As Utah has already started its head coaching search, whoever replaces Snyder will need to deal with this issue right away.

Hedgeout.net spoke with NBA expert Ryan Murphy, Managing Editor at Covers, about the possibility of Donovan Mitchell ending up somewhere else this summer. What Murphy told me, though, was that the Jazz would prefer to trade Rudy Gobert instead.

“Never say never when “Trader Danny” is involved. Ainge will certainly listen to offers, but it’s far more likely the Jazz will trade Rudy Gobert rather than Mitchell.

“The Stifle Tower” has plenty of suitors around the league and his chemistry with Mitchell – both on and off the court – has always been questionable at best.

Swapping Gobert for a stretch five would improve spacing and give Mitchell the kind of open lanes he needs to truly take his game to the next level,” Murphy said.

Even though both superstars have denied these reports and have expressed their willingness to remain with the team long term, things can change drastically in the coming weeks.

The arrival of the new head coach will certainly show what direction the Jazz will head to concerning the star duo.

Rudy Gobert has four years and $169M left on his current contract with the Jazz. For his part, Donovan Mitchell has four years and $136M left on his contract with Utah.
