WNBA: Mystics hold off Sky in close-fought battle

Ariel Atkins scored 19 points and the Washington Mystics slipped past the Chicago Sky 84-82 on Wednesday night to avenge a loss Sunday. Natasha Cloud made two free throws with six seconds left, and Candace Parker missed the potential tying basket as the time expired.

The Mystics closed the first half on an 11-3 run to take a 45-40 lead and extended it to 57-42. They were held to just 15 points in the fourth as Chicago came back and had a chance to win the game.

Alysha Clark added a season-high 18 points and Cloud finished with 11 for the Mystics (8-5). Atkins also had seven rebounds and five assists. Parker had 16 points and nine rebounds for Chicago (7-4).

Brionna Jones scored 18 points and the Connecticut Sun beat the Indiana Fever 88-69. That was the fourth straight victory for the Sun, which saw Jonquel Jones adding 16 points to beat Fever for the third time this season.

DeWanna Bonner added 12 points and Alyssa Thomas had 11 points, nine rebounds and five assists for Connecticut (10-3). Bonner moved into a tie for 17th in WNBA history for three-pointers.

Rookie NaLyssa Smith led Indiana (3-11) with a season-high 19 points. Danielle Robinson added 12 points and Queen Egbo had 10.
