ALBA Berlin beats Bayern to take 1-0 lead in the German BBL finals

ALBA Berlin had more gas in the tank in the last quarter and beat Bayern Munich 86-73 in Game 1 of the 2022 German BBL Finals. Both teams were close in the first three quarters, but, the Albatrosses made a 25-11 run in the fourth to get away with the victory.

The home side took an 1-0 lead in the German BBL finals with Yovel Zoozman leading ALBA with 14 points and four made threes. Maodo Lo followed him with 13 points and four assists for the German BBL reigning champions.

Bayern fought hard for three quarters coming off a tough series against Bonn in the semifinals. Andreas Obst led all scorers with 17 points, but Bayern allowed their opponents to shoot 48 percent from beyond the arc.

The home side also shot 55 percent from the field. Bayern was leading 61-62 at the end of the third quarter. Alba answered with an 11-0 run that gave them their biggest lead thus far in the game (72-65) with 5:09 left.

Bayern cut the lead to four with Leon Radocevic’s three, but, the home side answered with another 7-0 run to increase the deficit to 79-68 with less than 2:30 remaining. The hosts proceeded to close the game out keeping their lead in double-figures the rest of the way.

Game 2 of the finals is on June 14 in Munich
