Serbian NT doctor Dragan Radovanovic confirmed that Bogdan Bogdanovic will likely miss the upcoming 2022 EuroBasket. The Serbian guard was expected to miss the competition, which will take place between September 1-18.
Bogdanovic recently underwent surgery on his right knee in California, USA, and as Serbia NT Dr. Radovanovic told sportklub.rs, the estimated time of recovery is no less than three months. The surgery took place 2-3 weeks ago.
“Two or three weeks ago, our national team member [Bogdanovic] underwent surgery on his right knee, and recovery takes time, not very short, at least three months,” Dragan Radovanovic said.
“We hear from each other almost every day, the procedure went in the best order, at a clinic in California. He will stay in the USA for another month, and then he should come to Serbia, Belgrade.”
It seems unlikely the Serbian star will be able to participate in the 2022 EuroBasket. He played through the injury during the postseason but the season ended in the first round of the playoffs for the Atlanta Hawks.
It will be the first time since 2013 that Bogdanovic won’t play for NT. Serbia will play in Group D, where they will face Czech Republic, Poland, Finland, Israel and Netherlands in the upcoming EuroBasket.
Bogdanovic’s absence adds up to Svetislav Pesic’s troubles. Back-to-Back MVP Nikola Jokic’s participation in the competition is still uncertain. Moreover, Vailije Micic went down with a foot injury during the BSL semifinals, but he returned to action recently.
