Draft prospect Nikola Jovic hopes to meet Nikola Jokic soon

Nikola Jovic made his pre-draft workout with the Denver Nuggets Friday and hopes to meet fellow Serbian and back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic soon. Jovic, 19, is a first-round prospect who followed Jokic path to the NBA.

He played for the same club (KK Mega Bemax) Jokic played before making it to the NBA. Jovic is expected to be a late round first round pick and the Denver Nuggets have the 21st pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

“I’ve never met him. That’s a thing that I’ve always wanted to do,” Nikola Jovic told reporters Friday at Ball Arena when asked about Nikola Jokic. “I hope I’ll meet him soon.”

The Mega Bemax forward left the Friday workout confident about a positive impression with Nuggets head coach Michael Malone in attendance. The Serbian prospect is considering a versatile forward/big entering the 2022 NBA Draft.

Last season, playing in the ABA League, Jovic averaged 12.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists. The promising forward represents the top-tier talent coming off Europe this offseason, and people in Serbia are idolizing Jokic for what he has done in the NBA, as the forward admitted.

“A dream come true to me, all of this. Especially (working out for) the Nuggets,” he said. “People in Serbia love basketball. For (Jokic) to be the two-time MVP, all the kids now, everybody wants to play basketball. … Everyone is up late to watch him.”
