Kenny Atkinson takes over Hornets

Kenny Atkinson will become the new head coach of the Charlotte Hornets, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Per the NBA Insider, the current assistant coach of the Golden State Warriors has agreed to a four-year deal with Charlotte.

Atkinson returns to a head coaching position for the first time since March 2020. He was the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets for 3.5 seasons. He then spent a season as an assistant with the Los Angeles Clippers before joining Golden State in 2021.

Kenny Atkinson will replace James Borrego, who parted ways with the franchise after four years. The Hornets reached the play-in tournament for a second straight season, but failed to advance to the playoffs.

Charlotte hasn’t qualified for the postseason since the 2015/16 season and hasn’t won a playoff series in more than two decades.
