Joan Penarroya has officially named Baskonia head coach ahead of the 2022-23 season, the team announced Monday. The former Valencia coach signed a two-year deal with the EuroLeague side.
The 53-year-old coach arrives from Valencia, which reached the Eurocup semi-finals this season. Previously, he managed Hereda San Pablo Burgos, which won three titles with him at the helm.
With Burgos, Penarroya won the 2019-20 and 2020-21 edition of the Basketball Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup in 2021. Before managing Burgos, Peñarroya was in charge of MoraBanc Andorra and Baxi Manresa.
Penarroya will debut in the EuroLeague with Baskonia next season, hoping to bring the team back in the postseason. The Spanish giants haven’t made the EuroLeague playoffs since the 2018-19 and had their last winning season during the 2016-17 campaign.
