Klay Thompson has a reputation in the last six years of his playoff career giving his best performances in Game 6 of a playoff series. This postseason,  he lived up to his reputation during the series vs the Memphis Grizzlies where he scored 30 points to help the Warriors close out the series.

“I realize I’m on a really good streak right now of Game 6s. I don’t know how long that will last. Hopefully, obviously tomorrow. It’s obviously a nickname I earned. I want to live up to it. At the same time, I don’t want to go in there and play hero ball,” Thompson said.

Thompson has bounced back from a poor start against the Boston Celtics. He’s averaging 21.7 points over the last three games and has combined for 14 made triples, shaking off early shooting struggles.

In the last two Game 6s, Thompson went for 30 points, while he scored 30+ in four contests since his 41 point explosion against the OKC Thunder back 2016. That majectic performance was the start of the “Game 6 Klay” nickname.

With the Warriors down 3-2, he responded in front of a hostile road crowd with a playoff-record 11 three-pointers and 41 points, including five triples and 19 points in the fourth quarter alone to force a Game 7 against Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

“I don’t want to put any extra pressure on myself to live up to my name. I just want to go out there and play free, trust my teammates. And I know great things will happen if I do those two things,” Klay said.
