The Dallas Mavericks covered a need by acquiring center Christian Wood from the Houston Rockets. By sending a late first-round pick and four non-rotational players to Houston, the Mavs are taking a player entering a contract year.
Here’s what the Mavs’ roster will look like after the trade:
Luka Doncic, PG
Tim Hardaway Jr., SG
Spencer Dinwiddie, PG
Davis Bertans, SF
Dorian Finney-Smith, SF
Christian Wood, PF
Dwight Powell, PF
Reggie Bullock, SF
Maxi Kleber, PF
Josh Green, SG
Frank Ntilikina, PG
Mavericks Free Agents
Jalen Brunson, PG: UFA
Theo Pinson, SG: UFA
With the addition of Wood, Dallas adds up to around $14.3 million. They were listed as having $182.9 million of total cap in 2022-23, per Spotrac. The four ex-Mavericks’ cap figures add up to around $12 million. That would put them $36.2 million over the $149 million luxury tax threshold with no draft picks for this year and $185.2 million on the books for next year.
