ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan will sit talk with Mike D’Antoni about the team’s head coaching position.

The Hornets have had to make a hard pivot after Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson suddenly backed out of his agreement to be the team’s next head coach.

D’Antoni, 71, has a 672-527 record as an NBA head coach in stints with the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets.

He most recently served as a consultant for the Pelicans. D’Antoni was the second of two finalists to be the next Hornets head coach before the team ultimately went with Atkinson.

It looks like D’Antoni is candidate number one. The Hornets are coming off the first winning season since 2016, but they were unable to make the postseason.

They lost to the Atlanta Hawks in the first game of the play-in tournament. The Hornets are looking to replace James Borrego, who was fired on April 22 after a 43-39 season.

New York Knicks aggressively pursue trade for Kings’ no.4 pick

The New York Knicks might be prepared to match the “significant price” it would take to acquire the No. 4 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft from the Sacramento Kings, according to SNY’s Ian Begley.

According to Begley, the Knicks are offering multiple picks in pursue of Jaden Ivey who is considered the favorite to be selected at no.4. Ivey averaged 17.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists as a sophomore with Purdue. The Knicks have the no.11 pick in the upcoming draft.

Cory Joseph picks player option for 2022-23 season

In a move that did not surprise, the Pistons point guard Cory Joseph has reportedly picked up his $5.1 million player option. The 30-year-old Canadian was expected to pick up that option, as he would likely not command that sort of yearly salary on the open market.

The advantage for the Pistons in this instance is that Troy Weaver can include that $5.1 million for trade purposes. Detroit has been linked to coveted free agents and trade targets like John Collins and DeAndre Ayton.
