Kevon Looney is going to be among the most coveted free agents this summer after his incredible performances with the Golden State Warriors last season. The 2022 NBA champion said he wants to remain in Bay Area but the future is uncertain.
“Always want to be back here,” Looney told The Athletic’s Anthony Slater (h/t NBC Sports Bay Area). “I’ve been here my whole career. But it’s a business. Never know what’s going to happen.
Wait to see what my agent says about what’s going on around the league, what’s going on with me. But I’d love to come back and defend what we’ve just won. But you never know in this league.”
Looney is among the Dubs’ players entering free agency, and he’s expected to attract interest from several teams in need of a rebounding bigman. Looney played in all of 82 games last season with the Warriors and appeared in 22 during the playoffs.
He had a big role in the series vs Memphis, Dallas and Boston to help the Warriors win their fourth title in eight years. Looney has three in his collection playing for Golden State since the start of his career in the NBA.
Alongside Looney, Otto Porter Jr. and Gary Payton Jr. are also expected to command interest in the upcoming free agency as unrestricted free agents. It’s likely that Warriors won’t be able to keep them all.
