Fenerbahce used the team option they had for Ismet Akpinar and the Turkish-German guard will remain with the team for the 2022-23 season, the club announced. Akpinar, 27, appeared in 14 games of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, and he registered 4.8 points per contest.
Prior to the Turkish League champions, the 27-year-old guard played for Besiktas and Bahcesehir Koleji in 2019-20 and 2020-21, respectively. He also had a stint with ALBA Berlin during the 2014-15 season making five EuroLeague appearances.
After missing the Playoffs in the EuroLeague and previously losing to Anadolu Efes in the final of the domestic cup, Fenerbahce bounced back and captured the league championship for the first time since 2018. Akpinar had a role in this with averages of 6.0 points per contest.
Fener hired Dimitris Itoudis as the head coach at the start of the offseason and officially signed Johnathan Motley and Samet Geyik, while they kept veteran Melih Mahmutoglu for the next two years.
