Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard progressing well; not yet cleared for 5-on-5 workouts

Kawhi Leonard is progressing well with his recovery from an ACL injury he sustained a year ago, but he is not yet cleared to return to team practices.

This is what the president of the Clippers, Lawrence Frank, told media after Thursday’s NBA Draft. Leonard suffered the injury on June 14, 2021, in Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals and had surgery a month later.

“Yeah, he continues to do great. He’s maniacal in his work ethic. It’s fun to see. I’m glad we can afford the light bill because he’s putting in the hours. But yeah, he’s doing great, and he continues to progress, and it’s great seeing him on the court.

No, he’s just kind of following in terms of just — I think he’s on course where he’s developing really well. But like five-on-five isn’t something I think that he’s doing at this point,” Frank said, via Tomer Azarly of Clutchpoints.

Kawhi Leonard signed a four-year deal with the Clippers in the summer of 2021 and his return will help the franchise return to title contention next season.
