Sacramento Kings acquired Sasha Venzekov’s rights in trade prior to the 2022 NBA Draft. Monte McNair talked on the Kings’ acquisition, but appeared noncommittal on bringing Olympiacos’ forward to the team next season.
“Wanting to add shooting was a big priority and going to one of the best shooters, who’s got great positional size in one of the best leagues in the world who’s already producing, that made it easy for us,” McNair said (h/t Eurohoops) in the post-draft press conference.
Vezenkov had a breakout year in the EuroLeague regular season appearing in the Final-Four with averages of 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He helped Olympiacos reached the final stage of the competition, being a pivotal member of the team.
Vezenkov also had a huge role in Olympiacos taking the reins from Panathinaikos in the Greek domestic league putting up great performances in the Finals. Vezenkov spent the last four years of his career with Olympiacos.
“I think Sasha’s a guy we see fitting with us. We all know how important that is in the league. We’re excited about the fit, and we will talk further and see what will happen. We know that he can play at the high level and that excites us”.
