Scottie Wilbekin parted ways with Maccabi Tel Aviv after four seasons, the club announced Saturday. A few minutes after the two parts ended their relationship, Wilbekin posted a farewell message.
The 29-year-old guard had one more year left on his contract with Maccabi, but he obviously negotiated his departure. Fenerbahce is close to a deal with the American-Turkish guard, per head coach Dimitris Itoudis.
Throughout his stint in Tel Aviv, he became the three-time Israeli League champion (2019, 2020, 2021). He was clearly a huge part of Maccabi’s winning run in the last part of the 2021-22 EuroLeague season.
He averaged 15.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists through 35 games during the 2021-22 EuroLeague. Wilbekin has played for three seasons in Darrusafaka before joining Maccabi back in 2018.
“The family of the Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball club thanks Scottie and his wife Maria for an unforgettable experience and wishes them success along the way,” the official announcement says.
