Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal is expected to opt out of his current deal and re-sign with the Washington franchise on a five-year max deal, Adrian Wojnarowski report via Kevin Pelton of ESPN.

That will probably slow rumors of teams trying to pry Beal out of Washington for about a year before rumors pop up again, as Beal has been a constant target despite his insistence on wanting to win in Washington.

As a 10-year veteran, Beal is eligible to earn 35 percent of the cap as his starting salary. The current cap projections would have him starting out at $42.7 million next season if he opts out and signs a new deal with his current team.

A max deal for Beal is estimated to be around $248 million, though the final figure will be determined once the NBA sets the salary cap for the 2022-23 campaign. The Wizards’ star has already hinted to Josh Robbins of The Athletic he made his decision.

Previously, he stated that he was leaning toward re-signing with the Wizards. The team has made the playoffs twice in the last five years, but never made it out of the first round. Beal has never gotten out of the second round in his career.

The Wizards will try to keep their star happy and made moves in the right direction during the past season. Kristaps Porzingis was an inspiring low-price acquisition, while the franchise drafted promising young guard Johnny Davis in the lottery.
