John Wall has decided to pick up his player option, worth $47.4M, and then leave the Houston Rockets in free agency.

Once he picks up his option, the former All-Star could leave the Rockets only via a trade or a contract buyout. For the time being, a trade will not likely happen, therefore the two sides will engage into contract buyout talks.

If that happens and John Wall becomes a free agent, then he is expected to attract interest from 3 teams. These teams are the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers.

“Interest in Wall from the Clippers and Heat, if he can finally make his way onto the open market, has been mentioned for months,” Marc Stein reports.

John Wall joined the Rockets in December of 2020, via a trade from the Washington Wizards. In 40 games with Houston in the 2020/21 season, he averaged 20.6 points, 6.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds.

Last year, he reached an agreement with the front office to sit out the season until he gets traded. However, this didn’t happen and the Rockets shut him down for the entire season. John Wall will be a free agent in the summer of 2023.
