Maccabi adds Israeli league champion Rafi Menco

Maccabi Tel Aviv bolster their forward rotation by signing Rafi Menco from the 2022 Israeli champions Hapoel Holon, the team announced Tuesday. Menco was one of the best forward in the league in the past season and helped his former team to win the title.

Rafi Menco is considered as one of the best shooters in Israeli basketball in recent years. He brings experience, can play both as a shooting guard and as a small forward. He started his career Hapoel Jerusalem in 2012.

After a one-year stint with Gilboa-Galil he returned to Jerusalem, where he stayed until 2016. Then, he moved to Hapoel Eilat and played under Oded Kattash, registering 9.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

“I am very pleased to join forces with Rafi once again”, said Kattash, “Apart from his personal abilities, he brings lots of energy and basketball IQ. He is a hard worker, made progress every year and joins Maccabi at his prime. He is ready, at the right age and with the right confidence.”

After continuing his career in the Winners League for three seasons, he moved to Chalon for one season in 2020 and then returned to Israel for Hapoel Holon. He averaged He started 21 out of 27 regular season game scoring 9.5 points and grabbed 4.5 rebounds.

“I have watched Maccabi played in the EuroLeague so many times, with the arena filled with the great energy from the fans. I can’t wait to get started,” Menco said in his first statement.
