The Portland Trail Blazers are working towards building a winning foundation around Damian Lillard. Lillard and Portland sides are expected to enter contract extension talks soon, according to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report.

More specifically, they will offer a contract extension worth more than $100 million for two years, per Fischer. There’s no guarantee at this time that the Weber State product will agree to this extension, albeit passing up on that much money is going to be tough.

He was the eighth highest-paid player in the NBA this past season with a base salary of $39.3 million. Portland will have to sign two more key free agents before working on a deal with their superstar.

Jusuf Nurkic is expected to re-sign with the team once the free agency opens, while Anfernee Simons will be a restricted free agent this offseason. The Blazers have already added one-time Team USA member Jerami Grant.

Lillard has been the face of the Trail Blazers since entering the league in 2012, averaging 24.6 points per game for his career. If the team wants to keep their superstar happy, then they will need to build a true contender soon.
