Dejan Radonjic named Panathinaikos head coach

Panathinaikos appointed Dejan Radonjic as the head coach of the team for the next two seasons, the Greens announced Thursday. Radonjic is coming off a stint with Crvena Zvezda winning the ABA League with the Serbian powerhouse.

Radonjic has won everything except the EuroLeague title with two ABA League championships, two Serbian League trophies, and two Serbian Cups. Last season, He led Zvezda to an 11th place in the EuroLeague with a record of 12-16.

Before joining the Serbian powerhouse, the veteran coach had a two-year stint with Bayern and won two German BBL championships in Munich. He returned to Crvena Zvezda in December 2020 and led the team to multiple titles.

“I want to thank the club for the trust and support I have received, which means a lot to me. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I am sure that together we will do great things that are appropriate for Panathinaikos,” the veteran coach said.

Panathinaikos has a quiet offseason so far, but after appointing Radonjic, they expect to start building for the 2022-23 season. The Greens hope that Radonjic can lead the team back to the top of the Greek Basket League after losing to Olympiacos last season.
