Malik Monk agrees to two-year deal with Kings

In a surprising move, Malik Monk has agreed to a deal with the Sacramento Kings and will leave the Los Angeles Lakers. As Shams Charania of The Athletic, the deal between the two sides is for two years, worth $19M.

Even though he was inclined to remain with the Lakers for another season, Monk eventually decided to move to Sacramento. Los Angeles couldn’t offer him more than the minimum or mid-level taxpayer ($6.3M), while the Kings will give him $9.5M on an annual basis.

Malik Monk was one of the best players of the Lakers last season, averaging 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists, on 39.1% from beyond the arc.

For their part, the Kings, with Mike Brown as the new head coach, aim to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2006.
