Sasha Vezenkov happy his draft rights are “with a team that wants him”

Olympiacos Piraeus forward Sasha Vezenkov spoke about the Sacramento Kings and if he expects to play in the NBA anytime soon. The EuroLeague star said he’s excited his draft rights are with a team that really wants him.

“I’m excited that my Draft rights are in a club that really wanted to have it. I know the Kings scouted and followed me during the season. Not planning to play in Summer League. We will talk soon. Just glad that a team that knows me, has my rights,” Vezenkov told Maria Mitsova of BG Basket.

Vezenkov’s draft rights (and cash considerations) were acquired by Sacramento from the Cleveland Cavaliers on Draft Day in exchange for Sacramento’s 49th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Vezenkov has two seasons remaining in his current contract with the Reds.

His NBA buyout is only $750K this summer. This is below the Excluded International Player Payment Amount for the 2022-23 season, according to Larry Coon of CBAFAQ as reported by Kings’ beat writer James Ham.

Vezenkov, 26, was named to the All-EuroLeague First Team this season. Registering 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.2 blocks per contest, he was one of the main reasons Olympiacos BC reached the EuroLeague Final-4 after a five-year absence.
