The Boston Celtics are acquiring point guard Malcolm Brogdon via trade, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. This is the first move of the offseason for the NBA finalists, who remained silent during the first day of the offseason.

The Celtics have sent Daniel Theis, Aaron Nesmith and a 2023 first-round pick. With that deal, Boston will add a clear-cut point-guard to its roster without losing anyone from the main core, as Brogdon has been a great playmaker and scorer.

The main issue for the veteran guard has been the injuries throughout his career. Brogdon appeared in only 36 games last season and averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game.

With a bevy of potential suitors for the veteran playmaker, the Pacers were expected to part ways with the veteran guard. However, the Celtics were not referred as a potential destination, as Washington and Atlanta (before Murray’s trade) were expected to make a move.

While Marcus Smart did an admirable job running things for the Celtics, the team was hurt by their inability to limit turnovers against the Warriors in the NBA Finals, and Brogdon is among the most ball-secure point guards in the NBA.

He has a career average of 1.8 turnovers per contest in 333 NBA games. Prior to Indiana, he was part of the Milwaukee Bucks, where he stayed for three seasons. He joined the Pacers via a sign-and-trade three years ago.
