Bayern Munich extends Othello Hunter contract for one season

Veteran center Othello Hunter will remain with Bayern Munich for one more season, the German BBL giants announced Monday. Hunter is the first offseason move for the Bavarians, who are coming off a loss to ALBA Berlin in the German BBL finals.

Hunter will experience his second season with the club after joining Bayern last summer from Maccabi Tel Aviv. Othello Hunter was one of Bayern’s leading figures last season. In the EuroLeague, the veteran averaged 7.7 points and 5.0 rebounds over 35 games.

“I’m grateful to continue to be a part of this family,” Hunter said. “Because for me everything felt like a big family from the very beginning, from the bottom up to the top of the club management.

I don’t want to be anywhere else next season and can’t wait for the journey to start again. Because the mission in Munich is not over yet.”

Bayern Munich is also expected to retain Hunter’s front court partner Augustine Rubit at least for next season. This is the first re-signing of the offseason after the German BBL giants decide to part ways with the team’s captain Nihad Djedovic.

The team also is expected to re-sign versatile point guard Nick Weiller-Babb, while they are interested in Niners Chemnitz forward and Germany NT player Niklas Wimberg.
