Domestic Cups

Olympiacos’ return to the Greek First Division was successful. They managed to celebrate the championship, after sweeping the Finals series against Panathinaikos (3-0).

This marked their second title win this season. The “Reds” beat their arch-rivals again in February at the Greek Cup Final (81-73).

It is a fact that Olympiacos performed really well this year. The team ranked fifth in points averages (80 per game). The Greek side was also fifth in assists (17.3), however only ninth in total rebounding (32.9). Their home run (13-1 in the regular season) was remarkable.

A lot of Olympiacos players stepped up for their team, showing great team spirit. Sasha Vezenkov (averaging 13.7 points and 5.9 rebounds) was selected in 2021-22 All-EuroLeague First Team. He was undoubtedly great this year.

Tyler Dorsey (averaging 12.8 points) and Kostas Sloukas (averaging 11.9 points, 5 assists) also led their team to a successful season.

 Moment of the season

After winning Game 3 against Panathinaikos in the Greek League Finals, it was time for the championship celebration.

2010-20 EuroLeague’s All-Decade team member Georgios Printezis lifted the trophy and retired from basketball as captain. After 20 years, the Greek legend wrapped up his career, having won the Euroleague twice (2012, 2013).

What’s next?

This will be an interesting off-season for the “Reds”, transfers-wise. The team would like to keep key players, such as Tyler Dorsey and Sasha Vezenkov. However, this will depend on whether they will receive an NBA offer or even a bigger salary elsewhere.

Olympiacos is currently in talks with Alec Peters and Joel Bolomboy. Other rumors regarding Nikola Milutinov or even Nick Calathes are proved to be false at the moment.
