Chet Holmgren shines in debut with OKC Thunder

Chet Holmgren started his NBA career in his unofficial debut with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The no.2 overall pick of the 2022 NBA Draft set the record for most blocks in Summer League history and dominated in all facets of game.

The Thunder rookie scored 23 points, blocked six shots, pulled down seven rebounds, sank four 3-pointers and dished out four assists to help Oklahoma City beat the Utah Jazz 98-77. Holmgren dominated the game on both ends of the floor.

The Gonzaga product also was effective on the offensive end, sinking 7 of 9 field-goal attempts, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Oklahoma City selected Holmgren out of Gonzaga with the second overall pick in last month’s draft.

Duke’s Paolo Banchero went No. 1 overall to the Orlando Magic. In his lone season at Gonzaga, the dynamic big averaged 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.7 blocks and 1.9 assists. Holmgren said postgame he wants to continue learning.

“I want to learn through every single experience, whether it’s good or bad. The worst thing I could do is have a great Summer League and not learn anything from it,” said Holmgren.

“Each film session, shootaround whatever it might be, trying to take that forward heading into this little next offseason part until training camp starts.”
