ALBA Berlin signs NBA prospect Gabriele Procida

Gabriele Procida became the first signing of the offseason for the 2022 German BBL champions ALBA Berlin. The 20-year-old is coming fresh off the 2022 NBA Draft, where he was selected in the second round at No.36. He signed a three-year deal with ALBA.

“I would like to thank ALBA for the opportunity to play for the club. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the club. So, it should be easy for me to get used to the new situation. Greetings also to the ALBA fans, because I know how passionate they are,” Procida said.

Procida is one of the youngest players to appear in the Lega Basket Serie A as he made his debut at the age of 17 with Cantu. At 18 years, 7 months and 23 days, he became the third-youngest player in Serie A history to score at least 24 points in a game.

Almost a month later, Procida made his senior debut for Italy at the EuroBasket 2022 qualifying tournament. He then signed a contract with first division club Fortitudo Bologna in the summer of 2021.

Last season, he averaged 7.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 18.5 minutes of play. On June 23, the athletic guard was drafted 36th in the NBA draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. During a trade, the draft rights of Procida were transferred to the Detroit Pistons.

“We’ve had Gabriele under observation for a while. I am very happy that we were able to sign him now,” ALBA sports director Himar Ojeda said.

“He is an athletic shooting guard who will complement our roster well. Gabriele is ready to perform at the highest level, and we want to help him take his game to the next level.”
