Isaiah Canaan is joining Olympiacos on a two-year deal, the Greek powerhouse announced Friday. Canaan will be the replacement of Tyler Dorsey, who is expected to return to the NBA after his breakout season in the EuroLeague.
The experienced guard split the 2021-22 season between UNICS and Galatasaray putting up 11.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.2 blocks per contest. Canaan was the 34th pick in the 2013 NBA draft selected by the Houston Rockets.
He spent several seasons in the NBA before making the jump to the European basketball scene. He logged 238 games played in the NBA between the Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls, Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Milwaukee Bucks.
He had career averages of 8.2 points, 1.9 assists and 1.9 rebounds during his time in the NBA. Canaan stayed the entire 2020-21 season in Kazan, but departed midway through the 2021-22 season due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
He finished the season in Turkey with Galatasaray before re-joining a EuroLeague team this offseason. This is the second move of the offseason for Olympiacos after signing big man Joel Bolomboy on a one-year deal.
