Bayern Munich completed the second signing of the offseason as they added forward Niklas Wimberg. The German NT player signed a two-year contract, the team announced Sunday.

Wimberg, 26, is coming off a season with Niners Chemnitz. He also played for WE Baskets Oldenburg, in which he started his career,  Oettinger Rockets and Eisbaren Bremerhaven.

“I’ve always dreamed of and worked towards playing at the highest European level,” Wimberg noted. “The last three years have prepared me well, and now I have the opportunity to be a part of something bigger in one of the best teams in Europe.”

Wimberg averaged 6.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 23 German BBL games with Chemnitz. At the international level, Wimberg has represented Germany in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament held in Split followed by the 2020 Olympic Games last summer.

“Niklas had two strong BBL years in Chemnitz, where he gained confidence in his game and his talent. Incidentally, he was also excellent in the games against us and put us down with his attacking arsenal.

All in all, he has proven that he deserves this chance,” Bayern sporting director Daniele Baiesi said.

Wimberg is the second signing of the 2022 offseason for Bayern Munich, who also prospected Danko Brankovic. In addition, Othello Hunter, Augustine Rubit, and Nick Weiler-Babb all signed contract extensions the previous days.
