Pau Gasol believes the Los Angeles Lakers could officially retire his #16 jersey sometime next season. The Spanish legend revealed that he has already talked with the franchise about his jersey ceremony.
“The ceremony could be the next season. Yes, I’ve talked to the franchise and Buss familiy. We are all very excited.
It’s hard to imagine a moment like this. If it comes, it might be full of emotion, and tough to control myself. I’m very excited it comes to reality,” Gasol told Catalonian radio RAC 1, via Marc Mundet.

Pau Gasol spent six years with the franchise and helped the Lakers win back-to-back titles (2009, 2010). He is expected to become the 11th player to have his jersey retired by the team.
The other 10 are the late Kobe Bryant (#8 and #24), Wilt Chamberlain (#13), Elgin Baylor (#22), Magic Johnson (#32), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (#33), Shaquille O’ Neal (#34), Jerry West (#44), Gail Goodrich (#25) and Jamaal Wilkes (#52).
In October of 2021, the Lakers revealed their intention to hold a jersey retirement for Pau Gasol, shortly after the big man had announced his retirement from basketball.
