Joel Embiid has officially obtained French nationality as the official BOE records show (via Gigantes Del Basket). The Cameroonian native and NBA superstar will be eligible to play for the French national team in the coming FIBA and Olympic competitions.
The 28-year-old big man has never worn the Cameroonian jersey in an official FIBA competition. Vincent Collet gave his list of preliminary roster ahead of the August’s FIBA action and the 2022 EuroBasket, which will take place in September.
Embiid obviously was not part of the roster and his main goal might be participating in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. During the 2021-2022 NBA regular season, the star center has averaged 30.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.5 block per game.
He was among the best players in the league and an MVP award runner-up behind Nikola Jokic. He became the first center in many years to average 30.0 points per and was named in the All-NBA Second Team.
He became the first center since Shaquille O’Neal to lead the league in scoring and he’s hoping to become an NBA champion with the Philadelphia 76ers, who are on “win-now” mode.
