AS Monaco officially signs John Brown III to a two-year deal

AS Monaco bolstered its forward rotation by adding former UNICS Kazan star John Brown on a two-year deal, per the club’s official statement. Brown spent the 2021-22 season with UNICS Kazan and Germany Brescia.

The new Roca Team power forward holds the record for most EuroLeague interceptions in a single season and he was among the best defenders in the league prior to leaving UNICS’ due to the Russian invasion in Ukraine.

Brown, 30, began his career with Virtus Roma in 2016 and has gained experience in Europe with Treviso and Brindisi prior to joining UNICS in 2020. He averaged 10.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 steals, and 1.3 assists per game in the EuroLeague last season.

His highest-scoring game of the season was in Barcelona (21 PTS). He also hit the 20-point mark twice against FC Barcelona and the reigning champions Anadolu Efes Istanbul. Thas was the first experience in the EuroLeague for Brown.

“I still want to improve, take steps, and do everything to leave a mark of me in Monaco. I’m not a guy who’s going to be flamboyant and score non-stop, and that’s not going to be my role,” Brown said.

“But I want to do all the things around it that will lead us to victory. And collectively I want to win titles, like all of my teammates. I will do my job, and I will do everything to win.”

Brown is the third signing of the offseason for Monaco after sharpshooter Jordan Loyd and star guard Elie Ekobo.
