The New York Knicks are confident they can trade for Donovan Mitchell without sending RJ Barrett to the Utah Jazz.
This is what Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report says, adding that the Jazz have no intention to negotiate a new deal with Barrett if they receive him.
“Knicks personnel have projected confidence, sources said, that they will ultimately be able to land Mitchell without sacrificing Barrett.
Likewise, league sources have indicated that Utah isn’t enamored by becoming the franchise that coughs up a sizeable extension to Barrett,” Fischer writes.
RJ Barrett will be due to an extension shortly and it seems the Knicks will be the ones to negotiate a deal with him.
So far, there has been no deal between New York and Utah, but the talks between the two sides remain ongoing. The Jazz will aim to get a handful of players and first-round picks in exchange for Mitchell.
