AS Monaco adds Matthew Strazel on a three-year deal

French point guard Matthew Strazel is joining AS Monaco Basket on a three-year deal, the club stated via an official statement. The 19-year-old guard player becomes the fifth new addition by Monaco in the offseason.

Strazel averaged 3.4 points and 1.9 assists in 15:16 minutes over 30 EuroLeague games with ASVEL in 2021-22, while posting 5.8 points and 2.4 assists in 18.5 minutes over 31 matches of the French Jeep Elite League.

ASVEL prevailed over AS Monaco in the French Pro A finals beating the Monegasques 3-2 after going down 2-1. After three seasons in ASVEL, the promising guard move to the Roca Team.

“This was without a doubt the most hotly contested series I have ever played. Last year we were champions, but in a format complicated by the fact that it was a match,” Strazel said on the series vs Monaco.

“For my first real playoffs, it was a series of extreme intensity between two teams who never wanted to let go.”

Strazel declared his name for the 2022 NBA Draft but later withdrew from the event this past June. He is a French Cup winner in 2021 and helped ASVEL win LNB Pro A titles twice (2021, 2022).

“I am going to new horizons. I set myself other goals, try to bring everything I can give on the pitch. And do everything to win the title, this time with the Roca Team,” the swift point guard said.

“I want to continue to gain experience. Discovering a new team with bigger ambitions in the Euroleague, it can only forge me a little more.”
