FC Barcelona’s Nikola Mirotic out with Achilles injury

FC Barcelona star Nikola Mirotic is expected to miss the first part of the EuroLeague season due to an Achilles tendon injury as Telesport reported before FC Barcelona confirmed that indeed Mirotic has an issue in his Achilles tendon via an official statement.

In the official statement, Barcelona downplayed the severity of the issue claiming that Mirotic is monitored by the team’s doctors and he will enter a recovery phase for the next few weeks. Barca describes the injury as discomfort in the Achilles tendon.

Mirotic averaged 16.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 24:59 minutes as his team made the Final Four for the second straight season. The 31-year-old forward was also named to the All-EuroLeague First Team.

Mirotic was the team’s most valuable player as Barcelona also made the ACB Finals before losing to Madrid. Three frontcourt players of Nigel Hayes-Davis, Rolands Smits, and Brandon Davies have already left Barca this off-season.

The Catalans replaced them with Jan Vesely and Oscar Da Silva, but Mirotic’s injury certainly is a huge blow for the Spanish giants.
