AS Monaco signs young prospect Yoan Makoundou

AS Monaco completed the addition of young French prospect Yoan Makoundou, who signed a four-year contract with the Monegasques, as the club announced Saturday. Makoundou is coming off a strong season with Cholet.

“I think it was a big milestone for me, to show that I was ready to perform in this kind of team with very high expectations. It’s a good way for me to progress. I found that Sasa Obradovic’s plan for me was really coherent after all these years spent in Cholet,” Makoundou said.

The young 2.07-meter big man averaged 10.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in the French Basketball League this past season. After averaging 10.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in the 2020–21 BCL, he was named the Champions League Best Young Player.

The Frenchman was eligible for the 2022 NBA Draft but he was not selected. Makoundou is coming to bolster the Monaco’s frontcourt and became the 7th signing of the offseason for AS Monaco Basket.

“No matter where I am, I want to be the best player possible. I have to keep learning too because I’m still young. But I want to have as much impact as possible within the team with which I evolve” the promising center said.
