Jalen Brunson had the opportunity to agree to a contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks last season.
However, he turned down Dallas’ offer in order to test free agency and eventually agree to a deal with the New York Knicks.
During his appearance on JJ Redick’s The Old Man & The Three podcast, the 25-year-old guard revealed why he refused to sign the Mavs’ offer.
“By then, it was too late. The business came knocking at the door. It was time to at least look. I had to do my due diligence and look,” Jalen Brunson said, via The News & Observer.
Jalen Brunson had a stellar 2021/22 season, averaging 16.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists and helping the Mavs reach the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2011.
As a member of the Knicks, Brunson has his sights set on making New York an Eastern Conference powerhouse and a title contender.
