Panathinaikos is in a search for a forward and according to multiple Greek media outlets, the Greens have German sharpshooter Niels Giffey in their radar. The German national team forward spent the past season with Zalgiris.
He averaged 6.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 steals on 40 percent 3-pointers in 17 minutes of action in the Lithuanian league and 5.6 points and 2.7 rebounds on 34.5% 3-pointers in 16 minutes of action in the EuroLeague.
The UConn product started his career with ALBA Berlin and stayed with the German powerhouse for four season before moving to Kaunas last summer. He’s a two-time German BBL champion and two German Cup winner.
He also won the Lithuanian domestic cup with the Kaunas’club. He’s also a two-time NCAA champion with UConn in his four-year stint with the famed college basketball program. Panathinaikos is trying to rebuild its team after a disappointing 2021-22 campaign.
The Greens made seven signings this offseason adding Paris Lee, Panagiotis Kalaitzakis, Marius Grigonis, Nate Wolters, Andrew Andrews, Derrick Williams and Arturas Gudaitis.
