The Utah Jazz have expressed strong interest in signing restricted free agent guard Collin Sexton if they sorted out the situation with Donovan Mitchell, per Sam Amico of Hoops Wire.

Jazz are reportedly negotiating a trade with the New York Knicks for Donovan Mitchell. Per, the Jazz have explored the idea of making a sign-and-trade deal with the Cavs for Sexton, but they are focused on reaching to a resolution on Mitchell.

Collin Sexton remains a restricted free agent with the Cavs. Cleveland reportedly offered him a three-year, $40 million deal, but the explosive guard demands starting guard money to sign and return to the Cavaliers.

As for the Jazz, the franchise working on trading Mitchell after moving Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, there’s no significant movement in that regard since Utah is asking for a significant number of picks in return.

It’s still unclear if the Jazz will make a move for Sexton if they reached to an agreement to trade Mitchell, or they’re seeing Sexton as a good fit alongside Mitchell if the All-Star guard stays in Utah.

Another option for Sexton could be signing the qualifying offer and play for the Cavaliers for one more season in order to re-enter the free agency market next summer. It would have been easier for the Cavaliers to assess the situation if Sexton was healthy last season.

He only played 11 games coming off a career 2020-21 season, where he averaged 24.3 points, 4.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds per contest. Despite missing their best score, the Cavaliers ended up with a 44-38 record and reach one win away from the playoffs.
